Drywall Metal Stud Roll Forming Machine Offload

Toronto, ON

Solid Hook was hired to safely offload and place a brand new 22,000-lb metal stud roll forming machine that arrived from overseas inside an open-top shipping container. Because the machine manufactures drywall framing studs, maintaining factory alignment during the lift was critical. Our team engineered a controlled vertical lift to safely remove the machine without twisting or damaging its precision components.

Project Overview

Solid Hook was contracted to offload a newly delivered metal stud roll forming machine at a manufacturing facility in Toronto, Ontario. The equipment arrived from overseas inside an open-top shipping container and weighed approximately 22,000 pounds.

Unlike standard machinery shipments that can be slid or pulled from containers, this machine required careful handling to protect the internal alignment of the roll forming system. Any twisting or uneven lifting could damage the machine’s precision rollers and affect its ability to manufacture metal drywall studs accurately.

The equipment therefore needed to be lifted straight up and removed from the container in a perfectly controlled motion. Traditional extraction methods using skates or pulling equipment were not suitable for this type of machine due to the risk of structural stress and misalignment.

Solid Hook developed a controlled lifting plan using a forklift and specialized rigging equipment to maintain even load distribution throughout the lift. The machine was carefully raised vertically out of the container and placed directly onto the ground without twisting or shifting.

Once safely removed from the container, the equipment was positioned according to the facility layout so the client could proceed with installation and commissioning.

The Challenge

• Machine arrived in an open-top shipping container • Precision roll forming equipment requiring strict alignment protection • Machine could not be pulled or dragged from container • Risk of twisting or structural stress during extraction • Required perfectly controlled vertical lift

Our Solution

• Designed controlled vertical lifting plan for container extraction • Used rigging slings and lifting beam to balance the load • Lifted machine straight up from container without twisting • Carefully lowered equipment directly to ground level • Positioned machine safely for final installation

Results

The 22,000-lb metal stud roll forming machine was safely lifted from the open-top container and placed on the ground without any structural stress or alignment issues. Solid Hook executed the lift with precise load control, ensuring the machine remained perfectly balanced throughout the process. The customer was able to proceed with installation and commissioning immediately following the offload.

Solid Hook machinery movers and rigging crew extracting a 22,000 lb metal stud manufacturing machine straight up from an open-top shipping container using a Versa-Lift 25/35 during a machinery moving project in North York, Ontario — a precision vertical lift required to preserve factory alignment, as any twisting would have compromised the machine's calibration during a production expansion project.
